Pre-ProductionProductionPost-Production Allowing students to create their own movies with a little guidance from a knowledgeable teacher is both motivational and educational. Students practice many skills as they become engaged in a project that they love - writing, theme creation, planning, organizing, audio/visual equipment practice, video editing software practice, and others. The following is an overview of what's needed to produce a film that people will want to watch.
1. Create an understandable and interesting story.
2. Only include in the final product what is necessary to tell the story.
3. Show characters as being human so the audience can identify with them. The actors should reveal parts of themselves that mesh well with the character they are portraying. A movie that is fun to watch is real, genuine, sincere, vulnerable in its portrayal of its characters. The actor should become the character, not pretend to be the character. If it isn’t real, it isn’t really good.
4. Involve the viewer with a mystery. Include unique elements and a few surprises.
5. Use all the elements of video production in a careful way to tell the story so that everything contributes to the successful telling of the story and the audience’s emotional response.
